Our Story
And One Day...Our Dream Came True
Our Story
Hello! We are Janene and Chris Lamon, and it’s a pleasure to meet you. We hope you find our story as unique and special as the products we create.
In 2008, we became foster parents, and our journey took a beautiful turn when our son became a foster brother to a sweet 3-month-old girl. Fast forward to 2014, and after an unforgettable journey, we adopted her—and three other children. This chapter of our lives taught us invaluable lessons about love, strength, and the power of believing that dreams really do come true. We were blessed to have Janene stay home with our children for seven years. But five years ago, Janene felt a calling to do more. That's when You Make Scents Candles was born. As much as she loved being a mom, there was a part of her that wanted to share her creativity with the world, and we began brainstorming what would make us stand out in the candle industry.
At You Make Scents, Lamon Woodworks, and SOL Creations - we do things a little differently. We focus on YOU, our customer. Have you ever gone into a store searching for the perfect gift for yourself or someone special—only to leave empty-handed because you couldn’t find exactly what you were looking for? That’s where we come in! We’re here to ensure you receive the highest-quality products, created by a family who works together to make it happen. SOL Creations, our daughter’s jewelry line, was born out of her passion for creating unique pieces. She loves the joy that comes with seeing someone’s face light up when they find the perfect piece to wear. Meanwhile, Chris spent years researching handmade woodworking, and Lamon Woodworks was created. Together we craft personalized, high-quality pieces that add special touches to our customers' homes.
Our family worked together to build You Make Scents Candles into what it is today. In February 2022, we opened a brick-and-mortar shop in Bel Air, Maryland, where we offered a space for local vendors to showcase their handmade products. Our shop quickly grew into something more: we discovered our love for providing a DIY space for the community, with birthday parties and group events where people could create their own products.
However, in June 2025, we made the difficult decision to close our storefront and take the business in a new direction. Chris' woodworking had grown exponentially, and we wanted to expand our creative process as a team. So now, we’re focusing on vendor events and bringing our DIY experiences directly to you! We’re thrilled to offer both large and small events—because when it comes to creativity, the more, the merrier!
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We’re so proud of the path we’ve taken, and we’re excited for the future. We hope you find our model as unique and exciting as we do. Whether it's candles, jewelry, woodworking, or a DIY event, we’re here to make your experience unforgettable. Let us bring fun, creativity, and excitement to your next event. Your guests are sure to have a blast, and your event will be the talk of the town!
